Flavor Profile and Origin
This tea possesses a unique flavor that you absolutely must try. The Mìxiāng Guìfēi Chá (Honey Fragrance Guifei Tea) has a flavor profile similar to the renowned Dōngfāng Měirén Chá (Oriental Beauty Tea), carrying a rich, luscious lychee fruit aroma. Compared to the gentle elegance of Oriental Beauty, this tea is more majestic and noble. With a distinct lychee and longan honey fragrance in the tea soup, and to create market distinction, this tea was named after the Imperial Concubine Yang Guifei, who was famous for her love of lychees, hence the name: Honey Fragrance Guifei Tea.
This is a high-mountain Oolong harvested in the Líshān (Lishan) production area. It is crafted using a process of heavy fermentation and light roasting, which allows it to release a clean, sweet, fruity fragrance—reminiscent of lychee and flower honey—when brewed. This is a **natural aroma with absolutely no additives**. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and rich, with the honey *yun* (charm/essence) filling the entire mouth, leading to an endless aftertaste (*huiwei wuqiong*).
The Romance of the Leafhopper Kiss
This tea is often called "the most romantic kiss of the entire summer" and a rare, sought-after good taste. Summer is the most active season for the Xiǎolǜyèchán (Small Green Leafhopper).
The leafhopper's lively activity is a "sweet kiss" upon the Oolong tea leaves. To attract these tiny "guests," the tea garden must maintain a purely ecological, pesticide-free environment. After being "kissed" or "bitten" by the small green leafhoppers, the tea leaves stop growing and begin to curl and wilt, causing a sharp decrease in tea yield.
This seemingly poor situation is, in fact, a beautiful encounter. The leafhopper's saliva remaining on the Oolong leaves, when processed and fermented, undergoes a special transformation, forming the distinctive natural honey fragrance that perfectly integrates with the *yun* (charm/essence) of the Oolong tea.
Some say its sweetness touches the heart, unforgettable like the beautiful Guifei; others say its *yun* is rounded and smooth, gentle and elegant like Guifei, hence its alternate name: Guifei Oolong.
