2025 Mingqian Yefang Huangshan Maofeng
This year's 2025 harvest of wild Huangshan Maofeng (Yellow Mountain Fur Peak) green tea comes from Huizhou in Southern Anhui, a purely natural wild green tea from the deep mountains of Huangshan. The ecological environment is excellent. This type of tea mostly grows beside mountain streams in the deep mountains, without fertilizers or pesticides, and is unmanaged. The tea leaves are uneven in strip shape and vary in thickness. While this means the dry leaf appearance might be less uniform than cultivated teas, its true qualities shine in its clear and elegant aroma, a sweet, moist, and smooth mouthfeel, and a very good huigan (returning sweetness). It is truly worth savoring.
Huangshan Maofeng (Yellow Mountain Fur Peak) is one of the Ten Great Teas of China and belongs to the green tea category. It is produced in the Huangshan (Huizhou) area of Anhui Province, hence it is also known as Hui Tea. Every year during the Qingming Guyu (Qingming "Clear Brightness" and Guyu "Grain Rain" festival periods, signifying early spring harvest), the first-unfurled, stout, and tender buds of fine tea tree varietals such as Huangshan Zhong (Huangshan varietal) and Huangshan Da Ye Zhong (Huangshan Large Leaf varietal) are selected and traditionally hand-fired. This tea has a slightly curled appearance, with distinct buds and leaves. It is yellowish within its green color, with visible yin hao (silver downy hairs), and often features the jin huangse yu ye (golden yellow fish leaf), colloquially known as huangjin pian (golden flake) – a hallmark of authentic Maofeng. When brewed, steam forms a characteristic cap over the cup. The liquor is clear, bluish-green, and slightly yellow. The spent leaves are yellowish-green and vibrant. The taste is mellow and sweet, with an orchid-like aroma and a deep, long-lasting yunwei (charm/finish). Because the newly processed tea leaves are covered in bai hao (white downy hairs), with sharp bud tips, and the fresh leaves are plucked from the high peaks of Huangshan, the tea was named Huangshan Maofeng.
