2024 Fuding "Mudan Wang" (Peony King) White Tea Cake
This "Mudan Wang" (Peony King) white tea cake features plump and robust bud heads, closely resembling Silver Needle. The aroma is primarily characterized by haoxiang (downy/bud fragrance), complemented by floral notes. The scent profile is wonderfully varied, showcasing an elegant orchid fragrance, a sweet osmanthus fragrance, and a refreshing jasmine fragrance, all contributing to a rich, layered complexity. A gentle sniff is enough to bring a sense of delight.
Newly made Mudan Wang offers a fresh grassy and vegetal aroma, as vibrant and lively as a meadow after rain. It carries a light huigan (returning sweetness) and possesses an aroma that is even clearer and more abundant than that of Silver Needle.
In terms of its xianshuang (fresh and brisk character), few other white teas, aside from Silver Needle, can compare to Mudan Wang.
The tea liquor is a light, clear, and lustrous yellow, accompanied by a refreshing grassy and vegetal scent and a lingering floral fragrance that is truly qinrenxinpi (invigorating to the heart and spirit). Taking a gentle sip, one experiences its xianling chunshuang (vibrant, mellow, and brisk) qualities, reminiscent of the pure, fresh clarity of a bamboo forest in the mountains after rain. A delicate floral fragrance seems to be embedded within the tea liquor itself. It promotes shengjin (saliva production) and offers a distinct huigan (returning sweetness), with a long-lasting miyun (honey-like charm).
