2016 Dayi 1601 Lanyun (Orchid Rhyme) Cake
Part of Dayi's 2016 "Zhenpin" (Treasure) Series, this is the first "Company Seal" cake produced since the restructuring of the Menghai Tea Factory. It is meticulously crafted using 6 to 10-year-old Jingmai Big Tree material.
Tasting Profile:
- Soup: Bright orange-yellow.
- Aroma: A blend of floral and fruity notes.
- Texture: The soup is soft and gentle with excellent palatability. The sweetness is distinct and persistent.
- Aging: After nearly a decade of aging, the bitterness and astringency typical of new tea have largely faded.
- Mouthfeel: The most impressive feature is its silky "colloidal" texture (thick and viscous), likely due to the high proportion of Touchun (First Spring) buds used in the blend.
"Secluded orchids grow in the front courtyard, holding their fragrance awaiting the fresh breeze.
Upon drinking, the sweet fragrance is distinct, and the orchid aroma lingers around the nose."
The "Rhyme" Series Context:
Dayi's famous "Five Rhymes" series consists of Shanyun (Mountain Rhyme), Miyun (Honey Rhyme), Chenyun (Aged Rhyme), Yanyun (Rock Rhyme), and Haoyun (Pekoe Rhyme). This 1601 batch Lanyun (Orchid Rhyme) represents the sixth rhyme.
