#801 Dayi Five-Star "Jin Gang" Vajra Ripe Pu'er Cake

A Rare, High-Quality Ripe Tea

The Dayi Five-Star Vajra Ripe Cake is a premium Ripe Pu'er that was the first in 2008 from Dayi to utilize an innovative, refined fermentation technology. The tea lives up to its name: “金” (Jīn / Gold) signifies eternity, permanence, and classic status, making it a worthy possession; “剛” (Gāng / Hard/Strong) represents firmness and intensity.

Tasting Notes:

  • Flavor & Texture: Rich, mellow, and silky smooth; the tea liquor is thick and full-bodied.
  • Aroma: Rich and complex aged aroma (chénwèi), with abundant layers of flavor.
  • Mouthfeel: Good thickness and smoothness. The returning sweetness (huí gān) and saliva production (shēng jīn) are pronounced.
  • Conclusion: Truly a top-grade Ripe Pu'er! Highly recommended!

Comprehensive Tea Review:

The overall fermentation level of the 801 Five-Star Vajra is medium to slightly high.

Opening Stage:

  • The medium-to-high concentration is immediately noticeable, offering a heavy body and thick, viscous smoothness upon entry. The tea flavor is substantial.
  • A distinct sweetness follows as the tea liquor glides over the tongue. A clear, sweet aftertaste (gāntián huíyùn) remains on the tip of the tongue.
  • The aroma is primarily a blend of caramel, a faint aged note (chénxiāng), and downy fuzz aroma (háoxiāng), which together form the mellow profile of the initial stage.

Mid-Stage:

  • Mellow sweetness gradually becomes the dominant profile.
  • At this point, the addition of woody notes (mùzhì xiāng) and lotus leaf aroma (héxiāng) adds further layers of fragrance to the tea liquor.
  • Surprisingly, the tea liquor maintains a stable and strong performance even after continuous extended steeping.
  • For tea enthusiasts who only trust Ripe Pu'er from large-scale producers, the 801 Five-Star Vajra is an excellent choice.
