2006 Xinghai "Wild King of Ban Zhang" Raw Puerh
The 2006 Xinghai "Wild King of Ban Zhang" (野生班章王) is pressed using tea material from the greater Ban Zhang region. Ban Zhang tea is famous for its "overbearing/dominating" character (霸氣, bà qì). Its tea energy/vitality (茶氣, chá qì) is abundant, the mouthfeel is rich, the saliva production (生津, shēng jīn) and returning sweetness (回甘, huí gān) are powerful, and the aroma is intense. It is hailed as the **"King of Puerh Tea"** and stands out in the Puerh tea world.
After brewing, the tea liquor is an oily, bright orange-red. Upon entry, the flavor is strong, mellow, and substantially thick. The soup has a heavy texture, and the saliva production (生津, shēng jīn) and returning sweetness (回甘, huí gān) are rapid. The distinctive sweet and smooth quality of Ban Zhang tea gives the liquor impressive tension and fullness.
This "Wild King of Ban Zhang" possesses a powerful tea energy/vitality (茶氣, chá qì), a pure fragrance, and a unique "wild charm" (野韻, yě yùn). It carries a pleasant smoky note, a heavy, slightly sweet body, and high durability for multiple infusions. Such a high-quality mid-aged tea is becoming increasingly rare and is well worth tasting and collecting.
Note on Varieties: Two versions of the "Wild King of Ban Zhang" were produced on the same batch-run. The primary difference is the peacock logo on the upper right corner—one with a “TM” and one without. However, the raw tea material is identical, and the taste and quality are essentially the same.

About Xinghai Tea Factory (興海茶廠)
Xinghai Tea Factory's early signature products include the 302 Jingmai Round Tea, 2003 Chen Xiang Jipin, 2004 Tuji Tuo, 2004 Peacock Ban Zhang ABCD Ripe Tea, and the 2006 Wild King of Ban Zhang. The "Wild King of Ban Zhang" is considered a representative product of the factory.
Xinghai is a well-known factory in Menghai County. Its founder, Zhang Jianli, previously worked at the Menghai Tea Factory, and the initial staff were master tea makers re-hired from Menghai. This background gives Xinghai Tea Factory a strong competitive edge in the market for mid-aged Puerh tea.
